GEARS Posts Programs
GEARS has announced its upcoming programs. Separate fees have been set for GEARS members and for nonmembers. To register or for more information, visit http://www.GetintoGEARS.org or call the GEARS office at 717-367-0355.
Additionally, GEARS members should have received a copy of the Summer 2021 Brochure in their mailbox recently. All classes are also listed at http://www.GetintoGEARS.org. Registration for GEARS members was slated to open on April 19, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Summer Playground program will run from 9 a.m. to noon on Mondays to Fridays, June 14 to Aug. 6, except Monday, July 5. The program will take place at the Elizabethtown Community Park on Mount Joy Street for children ages 10 to 14 and at West Donegal Township Municipal Park, 1 Municipal Drive, Elizabethtown, for children ages 6 to 9.
Summer Playground offers a variety of recreational activities, including sports, games, arts and crafts and nature activities, in a safe, supervised, inclusive and supportive environment. The program will follow CDC and Pennsylvania Department of Health safety guidelines. Children must be accompanied to the playground site by a parent or guardian.
Registrations will be offered in advance and at each playground site. Payment is due at registration. Corporate and personal scholarships are available.
GEARS will also run camps this summer focusing on field hockey, basketball, track and field, Pokemon, tennis, volleyball, Snapology and recyclable art.
GEARS will also administer playground sites at War Memorial Park on East Walnut Street in Marietta and Fuhrman Park on Rock Point Road in East Donegal Township.
Pond Fishing for Beginners will take place on Saturday, May 8, from 3 to 5 p.m., with a rain date of Sunday, May 9. Participants of all ages will be provided with a rod and reel, tackle and bait. Those age 16 and up must have a Pennsylvania fishing license.
Seniors Eating Well will be taught by Mallory Zeigler, a registered dietitian nutritionist working with seniors and caregivers, on Wednesday, May 12, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the East Donegal Township Municipal Building, 190 Rock Point Road, Marietta. Topics to be discussed include food textures, changes in taste and smell and how to combat weight loss. The program is for people age 18 and up.
