Landis Valley Reopens

Landis Valley Village & Farm Museum, 2451 Kissel Hill Road, Lancaster, reopened to the public on April 30. The agriculture and farm exhibit and the Mennonite exhibit/leather shop are open for self-guided exploration, with one-way routes marked. The tavern, textile shed, Brother's House and Country Store are open for guided tours only.

While at the site, visitors may view the exhibit "Thrown, Fired and Glazed: The Redware Tradition From Pennsylvania and Beyond," for which Landis Valley Museum recently received a 2021 PA Museums Institutional Award of Merit. The exhibit, curated by Jennifer Royer, will remain in the Visitor Center Gallery through December. More details are available by visiting http://www.landisvalleymuseum.org and clicking on Explore, then Collections and Redware Collection.

Through the combined efforts of the maintenance and collections departments, three rooms of the Landis Valley Hotel have been repainted, and the walls have been decorated with new items from the museum's collections. Also on the walls are panels that share the history of the building.

In the museum store, a new POS system with a touchless payment system was installed using funding by a Pennsylvania Humanities Council CARES grant. The museum is working on restocking the store with items from various artisans, including new artisans. Public hours will be limited, but other hours are available by appointment. Call 717-569-9312 or email Terry Kreider at kreider@landisvalleyassociates.org to confirm hours or make an appointment.

Volunteers are needed to work in Landis Valley's gardens. Helpers may weed and plant in the gardens, fill seed and flax orders and package seeds. To learn more about the Heirloom Seed Project or to order seeds, visit the aforementioned website, click Explore and scroll down to Heirloom Seed Project.

Landis Valley's regular hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays as well as noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays. There is an admission fee.

CDC guidelines must be followed, including wearing masks. For details on what to expect while visiting a Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) site, visit http://www.phmc.pa.gov and click "Welcome Back!"
