Siegrist, Sheaffer Recognized

Matthew Siegrist and Eve Sheaffer have been selected as April's Seniors of the Month at Manheim Central High School. The Manheim Women's Club sponsors the Girls of the Month, and the Rotary Club of Manheim are sponsored by the Boys of the Month. Seniors of the Month are chosen by the professional staff of the high school based on academic achievement, character and involvement within the school and community.

Matthew, 17, is the son of Wesley and Teresa Siegrist of Manheim. His school activities include basketball and pingpong. He has volunteered in the community for two summers at his church, Ephrata Community Church, and doing lawn care. He plays the guitar for his church as well as occasionally at second Fridays in Lititz. Matthew, whose father is a private pilot, plans to attend college to study aerospace engineering.

Eve, 18, is the daughter of Dave Sheaffer and Tammy Myer of Manheim. She is a four-year member and the current co-president of the Science Club, and she has participated Science Olympiad all four years of high school. She is co-president of Amnesty International, chair of Mini-THON, and vice president of La Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica. Her other honor society memberships include National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Rho Kappa Social Studies Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, and National Art Honor Society. Eve is also involved in Student Council and Baron Stage. She won two silver awards and one bronze award for the National Spanish Exam. Eve has volunteered for Toys for Tots the past four years, and through the Science Club, she has volunteered with the Elementary School Science Night each year. Eve plans to attend a four-year college to major in either a science or foreign language/international studies.
