Presentation to Focus on Historical Figure

The Millersville Area Historical Society will host a program, "Rattlesnake Colonel: Thomas Cresap, An American Paradox," at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, in the Millersville Borough Administration and Police Building, 100 Municipal Drive. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. and lock at 9:15 a.m.

Michael Maloney, a history buff and author from Red Lion, will be the speaker. His slideshow presentation will tell the story of Thomas Cresap, one of Colonial America's most influential figures. Cresap was involved in the border war between Pennsylvania and Maryland, and he contributed during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. He helped shape the frontier and furthered America's westward expansion through his personal relationships with some of the most influential men of his time. Maloney will explain the challenges Cresap faced, the alliances he forged, and the often misunderstood legacy he left behind. A question-and-answer time will close the program.

Maloney's interests, besides local history, include genealogy, camping, and working with stained glass. Now retired, he was the director of IT technical services for Lifetime Brands, the parent company of the Pfaltzgraff Company, for many years.
