"Coffee With a Colonial" and One-Act Play Set

Historic Rock Ford, 881 Rockford Road, Lancaster, will hold two programs at the circa 1794 General Edward Hand Mansion. Tickets may be purchased at http://www.historicrockford.org/special-events.

Living historian Sam Leamer will present Coffee With a Colonial on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2, 3, and 4 p.m. The program will be held in the kitchen. It will offer the opportunity for conversation over and about coffee, either of the 18th- or the 21st-century variety.

Leamer was born and raised in Berks County. He holds a history degree from Cairn University and is a lifelong living historian and re-enactor with a decade of experience working with 21st-century coffee. Leamer wishes to provide a deeper understanding of the Colonial coffee culture in North America and how it fueled a nation's beginnings.

In addition, the one-act play "Persuasion" will return to Historic Rock Ford on Fridays, Nov. 6 and 13, and Saturdays, Nov. 7, 14, and 21, at 7 and 8:30 p.m., as well as on Sunday, Nov. 22, at 2 and 3:30 p.m. The original play, adapted by Sam Slaymaker from the novel "Persuasion" by Jane Austen, and directed by Rachel Faust, is intended to provide audiences with the flavor of Austen's work and wit within the setting of a true Georgian mansion.

"Persuasion" relates the story of Anne Elliot, an aristocratic young lady who declines marrying Capt. Frederick Wentworth at a youthful age even though she deeply loves him. After a period of seven years, Elliot and Wentworth meet again and try to resolve their complex feelings. Caitlin Hughes will reprise her role as Elliot.

Each performance will be approximately one hour, with scenes taking place on the main floor of the mansion. Guests must stand during the entire performance and follow the actors from room to room as the story progresses.

Each performance is limited to 15 guests, and reservations are required.
