Boone Area Library Prepares for Annual Wine Pull Fundraiser

The Boone Area Library will host its annual Wine Pull fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the library, 129 N. Mill St., Birdsboro.

The event will feature wine sampling, food, artwork, a gift basket drawing and bingo, among other attractions.

"Every year, we pretty much keep things the same," said Rachel Stewart, library director. "We partner with Ridgewood Winery. They come and they do wine samplings of their wine, and then people can also either purchase bottles from them or (get) additional glasses throughout the night."

Included in the price of their tickets, attendees will have the opportunity to pull one random bottle of wine at the end of the night. The value of the bottle they pull may be higher or lower than the price of a ticket.

"We have people donate, and then (the wine) gets all wrapped up so you don't know what kind of wine you're getting," Stewart explained. "At the end of the night, the whole thing will fall and then people can just grab a random one."

Past items in the gift basket drawing include gift cards, coffee, a gym membership and an entire '90s themed basket. Those who are interested in donating items should drop their donation off at the library by Monday, Nov. 2. The library is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 1 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.

The library is specifically asking for home and kitchen goods, wellness products, entertainment items, gift certificates and premade gift bags.

Artwork from local artists and handmade crafts will also be included in the drawing, Stewart said. There will also be several rounds of bingo, which can be purchased at the event.

"Members are able to purchase as many bingo sheets as they want," she said, "if they want to play multiple games at once, or if they just want to do one game at a time."

There is a cost to purchase tickets; prices vary for regular tickets and non-drinking tickets. The price of a regular ticket includes one wine pull, a wine sampling, craft and appetizers. Patrons must be 21 years old to purchase regular tickets and 18 for non-drinking tickets.

A link to purchase tickets can be found by searching for "Boone Area Library" on Facebook. Preregistration is encouraged, but tickets will also be available at the door until the event reaches its capacity. The ticket link also has the option to donate to the library.

Food at the event will include hors d'oeuvres, finger foods, snacks and desserts. Stewart said that something gluten free will be available; there will also be an array of nonalcoholic drinks.

Stewart said the library is hoping to get 50 attendees at the event and will have 50 bottles of wine for people to choose from. Funds raised through the event will go toward the library's general operating budget and programming.

"In October, our main program will be our third annual Halloween haunt, which is our version of an indoor, safe trick-or-treat," Stewart said of the event, which is set for Saturday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m. "We have a variety of businesses and individuals come and set up and hand out candy."
