Ware Center for the Arts, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster, will host the Heartland Marimba Festival on First Friday, Nov. 6. At 7 p.m. in the lobby, Heartland Marimba will share a hands-on, behind-the-scenes look at the marimba, including the science of the instrument's acoustics, its history from Africa to Central America to the classical music stage, and untold stories of the marimba's Pennsylvania roots, including tales of noted classical marimba player Clair Musser, who hailed from Manheim.

Also on First Friday, people may view the new exhibit "Overshare: I Did This for Me" by Lancaster artist Shauna L. Yorty in the Regitz Gallery from 5 to 8 p.m. Through cardboard collages, mixed media pieces, and bright, bold works of art, Yorty invites viewers to witness vulnerability, embrace their own stories, and find connection to themselves and to others through artistic expression.

The First Friday activities are free and open to the public.

Heartland Marimba will be featured again on Saturday, Nov. 7, during Heartland Marimba Jukebox Night with Friends at 7:30 p.m. Along with guest performers, the ensemble will play marimba and xylophone music, including modern pop, early 1900s ragtime and dance music, and Argentine tango.

There is a fee, with a discount for students. To purchase tickets, visit http://www.artsmu.com. More information is available by calling 717-871-7018 or emailing cori.jackson@millersville.edu.
