A Night of Spooky Fun

Spooktacular is a fun event that brings the community together," said Michele Emenheiser, executive director of the Mount Joy Area Chamber of Commerce, describing the annual event. "There's something for everyone, and we love seeing families, businesses, civic organizations and neighbors making connections."

Spooktacular will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, along Main Street in Mount Joy, from Marietta Avenue to Manheim/New Haven streets.

A variety of organizations will participate in the event, offering fun and activities to celebrate spooky season. Dog Park Mount Joy will have treats for kids and dogs. On Main Event Venue will give out hot chocolate, and Lakeview Benefits will hand out bananas. Juniper Village at Mount Joy will have a photo backdrop set up for pictures, and RAISE28 will operate a spin wheel for prizes. Milanof-Schock Library will distribute bookmarks and candy, while Mount Joy VFW Post 5752 will also hand out candy, along with flashlights.

"We're excited to be part of this year's Spooktacular!" said Kim Alampi, administrative assistant for St. Mark's United Methodist Church, where carnival games will be set up on the Faith Factory playground. "This is always such a fun evening, as families come together to enjoy the festivities, make memories and celebrate our community. ... Be sure to stop by and see us for a free hot dog and to say hello! We can't wait to see all the costumes, smiles and familiar faces. Come join us for a spooktacular night."

The festivities will also include a costume contest, so visitors are encouraged to come dressed for the holiday.

"This will be our third year hosting a costume contest, and we're excited to bring it back for the community," said Joy Heisel, owner of The Joy of Sweets and Treats. "I'm always excited to see the creativity and excitement for this event. We'll again have prizes for the categories of Scariest, Funniest, Best Group Costume, Cutest and Best Homemade."

Emenheiser said the festivities always draw a large crowd, and she's looking forward to this year's event.

"We hope you'll come out, enjoy the evening, and be part of the fun," she said. "Spooktacular is made possible by the members of the Mount Joy Area Chamber of Commerce. When you support local, you're supporting the people and businesses that help make events like this possible."
