Scouting America Group to Present Award

The Pennsylvania Dutch Council, Scouting America, will present the 38th Distinguished Citizen Award to James W. Saxton, chairman and co-founder of Saxton & Stump, in recognition of his leadership, philanthropy, and lasting impact across Lancaster and Lebanon counties. Saxton, an Eagle Scout, will be honored at the annual Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 5 p.m. at the Lancaster County Convention Center, 25 S. Queen St., Lancaster.

The Distinguished Citizen Award recognizes individuals who exemplify the values of the Scout Oath and Law through their professional achievements, community involvement, and commitment to serving others.

As co-founder of Saxton & Stump, Saxton has helped lead the firm's growth into a multistate organization with 11 offices and a network of affiliated companies. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he has demonstrated a commitment to community service through leadership roles with organizations such as the Lancaster YMCA and its foundation. Alongside his wife, Sally, he has been recognized with honors, including the Excellence in Philanthropy Award and Philanthropist of the Year.

This year's event will also feature Lt. Col. Christopher Fogt - who is a three-time Olympian, an Olympic silver medalist, an Eagle Scout, and the head coach of the U.S. national bobsled team - as keynote speaker. Fogt's message of discipline, perseverance, and leadership reflects the same principles at the heart of the Scouting program.

The Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner serves as one of the council's premier fundraising events, supporting Scouting programs that serve more than 2,400 youths across Lancaster and Lebanon counties. During the program, local Scouts will share their personal journeys and highlight their Eagle Scout projects, offering a firsthand look at the impact of Scouting in the community. Proceeds from the event will also support initiatives such as the Jay R. Bucher Campership Fund, helping ensure all youths have access to summer camp and Scouting experiences regardless of financial circumstances.
