The annual Chester County 4-H Beef Round-Up took place on Aug. 3. The event was one of many livestock programs held during the 2026 Chester County 4-H Fair, which occurred from Aug. 3 to 8 at the Chester County 4-H Center.

The Beef Round-Up featured showmanship and market classes, where students showcased the market steers and breeding heifers that they cared for and trained throughout the 2025-26 project year. Participants also completed the annual Beef Skill-A-Thon, where they were evaluated on their understanding of beef production, nutrition, animal health, equipment, meat science, and other aspects of the cattle industry.

The beef show was judged by Daniel Rohrbaugh of Seven Valleys. The grand champion beef showman was Gretchen McCafferty, and the reserve grand champion beef showman was Ella Howe.

Additional winners included the following: in the Senior Showmanship category, Gretchen McCafferty, grand champion, and Bradon Howe, reserve champion; in Junior Showmanship, Ella Howe, grand champion, and Emily Walsh, reserve champion; in First-Year Showmanship: Ruby Rohrer, grand champion, and David Ley, reserve champion; in Angus Heifers, Ruby Rohrer, grand champion, and Emily Walsh, reserve champion; in Market Steer, Gretchen McCafferty, grand champion, and Mark Petersheim, reserve champion; and in Prospect Steer, Alexis McCafferty, grand champion, and Ella Howe, reserve champion.

Chester County 4-H is open to youths ages 5 to 18 of all experience levels, and participants do not need to have an agricultural background. Through meetings, educational workshops, livestock projects, judging contests, and communities activities, participants learn about subjects such as agriculture, science, leadership, healthy living, environmental education, and engineering.
