The Lower Susquehanna Archaeological Society will host a lecture on Sunday, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m. at the Blue Rock Heritage Center, 2251 River Road, Washington Boro.

Author and historian Adam Zurn will present "Capital Day: Lancaster and the Revolution," a program exploring the events of Sept. 27, 1777, when the Continental Congress fled Philadelphia following the British victory at the Battle of Brandywine and temporarily established the nation's capital in Lancaster. The presentation will draw upon the events surrounding Alexander Hamilton's warning, the evacuation of important government papers, the secret journey of the Liberty Bell, and the brief but significant role Lancaster played during the American Revolution.

Zurn is the founder of Uncharted Lancaster, a history and adventure platform dedicated to uncovering the forgotten stories, legends, and hidden places of Lancaster County. A technology education teacher with more than two decades of experience, he also serves on the boards of the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County and the Conestoga Area Historical Society. He is the author of several books, including "Capital Day: Lancaster and the Revolution."

The event is free and open to the public. The Blue Rock Heritage Center is fully air-conditioned, and light refreshments will be served following the presentation. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet the author and ask questions.

The lecture is part of the Lower Susquehanna Archaeological Society's continuing public education series promoting the archaeology and history of the lower Susquehanna valley. The organization is Chapter 28 of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology.
