Lancaster Area Sewing Network (LASN) will present "Old vs. New Sewing Techniques" on Monday, May 18, at 7 p.m. at Lancaster Friends Meeting House, 110 Tulane Terrace, Lancaster.

Topics will include binding the edge of collars using bias binding versus a newer technique known as magic binding, whether hand sewing or the use of a sewing machine and Ban-Rol is best for baby hems, and methods of gathering.

The speakers will be seamstresses and LASN members Debby Spence, Linda Siegel, and Suzanne Fisher.

Spence is a custom dressmaker and clothing designer and a member of the Association of Sewing Design Professionals (ASDP). She has won numerous awards and has contributed several articles to Threads magazine. She lives in Lancaster.

Siegel teaches intermediate and advanced sewing to 4-H members in Lebanon County. She is also the director of the Pennsylvania Make It With Wool contest.

Fisher's love of sewing began in high school home economics. Since then, she has taken numerous classes to develop her skills. She is a small business owner who combines her love of sewing and rescue rabbits by crafting gifts for both rabbit owners and their family pets.

Guests may register for the program on arrival. There is a fee for nonmembers, payable by cash or check only.

LASN's 2026 theme is "Sewing Revolution," with all monthly meetings touching on an aspect of the topic.

LASN is a group for people who love to sew. Its members range from beginners to intermediate hobbyists to professional dressmakers. The group's main focus is fitting and construction skills related primarily to garment sewing. It meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of most months, with Zoom meetings held during the winter.
