The Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County will offer a fundraiser bus trip to Bucks County on Friday, April 24. Participants will board the coach bus at 7:30 a.m. on the Oregon Pike side of Lancaster Shopping Center, 1625 Lititz Pike, Lancaster. They will return to the shopping center at 5 p.m.

Participants will visit Fonthill Castle and the Mercer Museum. Fonthill Castle was the home and showplace of Henry Chapman Mercer, an influential American tile maker, archaeologist, antiquarian, artist, and writer known for his role in the Arts and Crafts Movement. All the concrete used to build the six-story reinforced concrete castle was mixed by hand, and thousands of handcrafted ceramic tiles are embedded in the structure's walls. The Mercer Museum houses a vast collection of artifacts depicting early American life. The trip will include time for lunch and self-guided exploration of downtown Doylestown. Each attendee will receive a complimentary snack box.

Fonthill Castle is not recommended for those with limited mobility, issues with stairs, or those who cannot stand for long periods of time. The historic castle portion of the Mercer Museum has an elevator and offers partial accessibility due to narrow passageways. Service animals are permitted at both Fonthill Castle and Mercer Museum in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify.

Proceeds will benefit the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County, a county-wide, nonprofit organization dedicated solely to preserving architectural heritage.
