Concert, Butterfly Program Slated

LancasterHistory and Music for Everyone (MFE) will celebrate MFE's 20th anniversary on Sunday, July 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at LancasterHistory, 230 N. President Ave., Lancaster. Jordan and Mark Rast will perform bluegrass and folk music, and Michael Jamanis from MFE will talk about the history of music in America.

There will be an opportunity to donate to MFE, whose work includes providing free weeklong music camps for more than 200 students across Lancaster County. MFE also provides music education programs to local schools and the wider community.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair, and they may pack a picnic. They may also bring dogs on leashes.

There is a requested donation for adults, and children age 17 and under will be admitted for free. LancasterHistory members will also receive free admission. To purchase tickets, visit http://www.lancasterhistory.org/events/. Walk-ins are also welcome.

In addition, the Friends of the Tanger Arboretum will hold "Monarchs, Milkweed, and More!" on Saturday, July 25, at 10 a.m. in the carriage house at the LancasterHistory Museum & Research Center.

Lancaster County Master Gardener Kim Frey will speak about the monarch butterfly's life cycle, migration, and anatomy before taking a deeper dive into metamorphosis. Attendees will learn about current research and how monarchs are tested for health and tagged for migration studies. They will also hear about citizen-science projects intended to help monarch butterflies rebound in the wild.

Since 2026, Frey has co-chaired the nationally recognized and award-winning Master Gardener butterfly garden at the Southeast Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SEAREC) in Manheim. Frey is an advocate for monarch-friendly habitat and native plantings and participates in ongoing monarch research initiatives and citizen-science projects.

There is an admission fee for adults. Admission is free for children age 17 and under, who must be accompanied by an adult, and for Friends of the Tanger Arboretum members; Friends members should still register for the program.

To purchase tickets, visit the aforementioned website or call 717-392-4633. Advance tickets are recommended, as walk-in tickets are not guaranteed.
