Church Plans Music and Family Fun Festival

Wayside Presbyterian Church, 600 Stony Battery Road, Landisville, will host its 14th annual Waystock event on Saturday, June 13, from noon to 4:30 p.m. Waystock is a music and family fun festival that includes local bands playing upbeat, clean music, and family activities on the church's lawn. In the event of rain, activities will move indoors.

The master of ceremonies will be Michael McDonald, who is Waystock's musical coordinator and a former backup singer for musicians such as Christopher Cross, Stevie Nicks, and Kenny Rogers. Four local bands will perform, beginning with Basic Connection at noon. Attendees will then hear music from Grace Notes, Wayside's house band, at 1:05 p.m.; Last Stand at 2:10 p.m.; and Think of 3 at 3:15 p.m. Music will end at 4 p.m.

Waystock will also include visits with the Stormers' mascot, Cylo, between 1 and 3 p.m. and a small mobile petting zoo of furry and feathered animals from Frederick Family Farms. A small silent auction will offer an array of items for sale, including entertainment and retail gift cards. Children may enjoy Wayside's playground and visit the Kids' Block Party, which will include a 60-foot retro inflatable obstacle course, balloon creations, the Iron Ridge Fire and Rescue vehicle, and free food and drinks while supplies last.

Available food will include hot dogs, chips, snow cones, popcorn, and Wawa soft pretzels. A picnic-style pavilion will be available for seating, but people are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Children's activities will be led by Wayside's director of family ministries, Sonja Eckert. Kids will get to know Rachel Holsey, youth coordinator; Michelle Hess, elementary coordinator; and the newest member of the Wayside staff, Gabby Aumen, nursery coordinator. Attendees may learn about the children's activities planned for the summer, supplementing regular Sunday family ministries. These activities will include pop-up events as well as a free vacation Bible school themed "Rome: Paul and the Underground Church." Bible school will take place from Monday to Thursday, July 13 to 16, from 9 a.m. to noon, with a lunch option from noon to 12:30 p.m. It is open to kids in kindergarten through fifth grade. For more information and to preregister, visit http://www.waysidepc.org and click on "Events."

Waystock is free of charge. Participants are encouraged to bring nonperishable canned goods, a cash donation, or both for the Hempfield Area Food Pantry. Anyone who brings five or more items will be entered into a drawing for a gas gift card.

The festival is sponsored by Richards Energy Group, McNees Law, High Transit, Citgo Mountville, and the Wawa Foundation.

Wayside will host a Visitor Sunday on Sunday, June 14, at 10 a.m. In addition, throughout the summer, Wayside will hold one Sunday service at 10 a.m., with a blend of contemporary and traditional music. On Sunday, Sept. 13, Wayside will return to offering two choices: a traditional service from 9 to 10 a.m., followed by fellowship and a contemporary service featuring Grace Notes from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This year, Wayside is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
