Donna Backus, a genealogist with decades of experience, will teach participants how to use DNA test results to identify unknown matches and matches already in their family tree, add matches to their tree, and sort and group matches. Participants in this workshop should have already taken a DNA test, preferably through Ancestry.com. There is a discount for LancasterHistory members.

LancasterHistory will host a lecture, "Thrill Ride: Hersheypark and Its Transformation in the 1970s," on Thursday, May 28, at 5:30 p.m. A reception will precede the lecture at 5 p.m. During the lecture, John Haddad will share how Hersheypark was once central to Milton Hershey's larger vision of paternalistic capitalism, from 1906 to its 1970s transformation from an old-fashioned amusement park into a modern entertainment complex modeled after Disneyland. Haddad will explain when and how the park discovered its formula for thrill rides and chocolate-themed attractions.

Haddad is a professor of American studies and popular culture at Penn State Harrisburg. He is the author of "Thrill Ride: The Transformation of Hersheypark," as well as three books that explore America's historical relationship with China. He lives in Lancaster with his family.

The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. The lecture will also be available via livestream but will not be available publicly after the event concludes.

LancasterHistory will offer two Nature Story Times: "Beautiful Bats" on Thursday, June 4, and "Where Butterflies Grow" on Thursday, June 11, from 10 to 11 a.m.
