Iron-Leg Is Taking Major's Fight to the Gridiron

Members of the local nonprofit Iron-Leg are thankful for the gifts they've been given. That gratitude is expressed through support to others who are less fortunate than themselves.

Iron-Leg Corp. is currently raising funds for an 11-year-old double-amputee who resides in the Philadelphia area, Major Asay. Recently, Major and his parents drove from their home to meet Iron-Leg members during the organization's preparation for an upcoming charity football game that will support Major and his family.

The practice was held at Penn Manor High School.

"We were excited to put a face to the kid we are working to raise funds for," said Sean Laukhauff, one of the founders of Iron-Leg. "Major tossed the football around, and we got to ask him about his interests. The team even gave the ball to Major so he could run a play. We told him we are here for him."

Iron-Leg will play its benefit football game for Major against a team sponsored by Lancaster Nissan at 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, under the lights at Millersville University's Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium, 45 Pucillo Drive, Millersville. In addition to the game, the charity event will include an appearance by the Philadelphia Eagles' bus, auctions featuring memorabilia signed by Eagles players, and vendors.

Iron-Leg officials are hoping to raise $25,000 for Major and his family.

"But we'd like to give him more," said Laukhauff. "Our goal is to provide the necessary funds for prosthetics or any financial burdens the family may have."

The health challenges that Major has faced landed him in Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for more than 50 days. While there, he underwent multiple medical procedures.

"(Iron-Leg co-founder) Matthew Millhouse came across Major's story through social media, and we jumped into action," said Laukhauff. "He is a very resilient 11-year-old boy, and he enjoys fishing."

Founded in 2019, Iron-Leg Corp. meets as an organization regularly at 1026 Lafayette St., Lancaster. Iron-Leg provides funding and raises awareness for pediatric prosthetics therapy, as well as general support for kids in need under 18.

Iron-Leg has also raised funds through charity golf outings and dances. Iron-Leg is a supporter of Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development.
