Community Car Show Will Help Distinguish Fires

At the Weaverland Valley Fire Company's annual car show, it's sometimes difficult to distinguish who's having more fun, those taking in the sights and sounds or those showcasing their beautiful vehicles. Perhaps the best way to settle this modest little debate is to say that a good time will be had by all.

Weaverland Valley Fire Company will present the 43rd edition of its popular, fundraising car show during the afternoon hours of Sunday, June 7 at Terre Hill Community Park, 210 Lancaster Ave., Terre Hill. The rain-or-shine event, which will get underway at 11:30 a.m. and conclude around 3 p.m., is open to the public and free to spectators.

Parking is also free.

"Terre Hill Park is a very nice park," said Harold Kilhefner, the organizer of the car show for the past 20 years. "There's a big grass area and there are a lot of trees and shade."

As many as 150 vehicles of all makes, models, manufacturers and years will be available for viewing. First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded in 18 business-sponsored categories, as well as an overall top prize for the best of show.

The prize recipients will be determined by a vote of spectators and peers. Winners will be announced at 2:30 p.m. and the vehicles will be paraded to the park's stage area, where they will receive their prizes.

Vehicle entries are expected from all over Lancaster County, as well as Berks, Lebanon, York and Chester counties, and even as far away as Maryland. Owners can pay to register their vehicles between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m. on the day of the car show.

"I'm amazed by how far they come," said Kilhefner. "Car owners can just show up."

Refreshments prepared inside the kitchen at the park's pavilion will be available.

"If you want to come out, you can get lunch or breakfast and look at some cars," said Kilhefner.

Organizers of the car show are hoping to raise $5,000 for the Weaverland Valley Fire Company, which operates stations in Terre Hill and Goodville. The funds will be put toward general expenses at the fire department.

The Weaverland Valley Fire Company also conducts a fundraising mud sale in May and holds chicken barbeques throughout the year. The Weaverland Fire Company was formed in 2013 through a merger of the Terre Hill Fire Company, which was established in 1910, and the Goodville Fire Company, which was established in 1912.

"I know they have some unique pieces, which is fairly typical of small fire companies," said Kilhefner.
