Presentation to Focus on Agriculture

Christ Church United Church of Christ (UCC), 247 S. Market St., Elizabethtown, will host a presentation for the community about the 2026 Growing Project at Wittel Farm on Friday, April 24, at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary.

"God Is in the Garden: Resurrection, Regeneration, and Return" will be offered by the Rev. Matthew Lenahan, a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the director of the Wittel Farm Growing Project at 1753 Mill Road, Elizabethtown. The Wittel Farm is an 85-acre preserved farm and a ministry site of the Lutheran Camping Corporation of Central Pennsylvania. It started in 2016 to provide fresh, locally grown vegetables for the charitable food system in Lancaster County. Lenahan has been learning about and incorporating regenerative farming principles to restore soil health and ecological biodiversity, while growing a mixed vegetable crop on 3 acres of a 9-acre field. The farm's distribution partners include Lancaster County Food Hub, Lebanon County Christian Ministries, Power Packs, Elizabethtown Community Cupboard, Peter's Porch, Ephrata Area Social Services, Ebenezer Baptist Church, Community Action Program, and the Elizabethtown Farmer's Market. Christ Church UCC is a partner with Wittel Farm, providing volunteers, financial support, and the host site for the Elizabethtown Farmer's Market, where produce is given away to the community.

Lenahan's presentation will explore the necessary intersection between the Christian faith community and the land, God's creation. He will share a vision for local, community-supported regenerative agriculture that can ensure food justice and food security through a common commitment to local food production. The presentation will also cover the importance of regenerative agriculture as a necessary transition in land stewardship to confront the problem of climate change.
